How to Apply to UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS in 2026
UnternehmerTUM runs three separate things and only one is the accelerator. Here is the XPRENEURS application, the equity terms, and the real timing.
How to Apply to UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS in 2026
How to apply to UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS in 2026: submit the online accelerator form with a current pitch deck and a mandatory two-minute founder video, then pitch live if invited. Participation is equity-free, Batch #20 closed on July 7, 2026, and the next published application phase runs December 2026 to January 2027.
UnternehmerTUM is three different things, and founders lose a whole batch cycle by applying to the wrong one. XPRENEURS is the selective accelerator. MakerSpace is a paid workshop you can join tomorrow. Funding for Innovators is where the money sits. They share a Munich campus and a TUM lineage, nothing more.
The accelerator is blunt about what it wants: a technological innovation and a committed team with at least one full-time founder, and no single-founder teams (XPRENEURS program page). Incorporation is not required at application if there is a strong intention to form a company, so a pre-GmbH lab spin-off can still apply.
How to apply to UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS in 7 steps
Everything before the pitch invitation is a form, and it is too long to write in the final week.
- Check the profile fit. You need a technological innovation and at least one full-time founder, and solo teams are not accepted. The program is primarily oriented toward B2B but may accept strong B2C or B2G teams (XPRENEURS program page).
- Catch the published window. Batch #20 ran June 4 to July 7, 2026 and is closed. The next published application phase is December 2026 to January 2027 for Batch #21 (XPRENEURS program page).
- Open the application form weeks early. It asks for technology-readiness and customer-engagement levels, product development, market, business model, competition, USP, IP, incorporation, traction, funding history, fundraising plans, and location, plus a current pitch deck and a mandatory two-minute founder-introduction video (UnternehmerTUM Accelerator application form).
- Attach the deck you already have. The version you send is whatever exists on deadline day, so update it before the window opens, not during it.
- Record the two-minute founder video. It is a required field, not a bonus one.
- Prepare for pitch week. After the written round closes, the team invites successful applicants to pitch roughly two to three weeks before the batch starts, with the decision about one week after pitch week.
- Block the mandatory Munich dates. The Munich kickoff, two XCONNECT events, and Demo Day are mandatory live events (application form). Settle who travels before you accept a place.
The UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS application is won on the video, not the market slide
Two minutes of founder video is the only part of the form a reviewer cannot skim, and it is the part most teams fill with market forecasts.
The form already collects your technology-readiness level, customer-engagement level, competitors, USP, and IP position in structured fields (application form). Repeating that in the video wastes your one unstructured asset.
✅ Good: "I am the CTO, I built the electrolyser stack in my TUM lab, here it is running at 40 bar, and my co-founder left Siemens full-time in March to sell it." Names the technology, the evidence, and the commitment inside 30 seconds.
❌ Bad: "The global hydrogen market will reach billions by 2030 and we are uniquely positioned to capture it." A market number tells a deep-tech reviewer nothing about whether you can build the thing.
On language: the published criteria set no German-language requirement (XPRENEURS program page), and the program pages are in English. The form system sits on a German-labelled path, so read the field labels early rather than assuming.
XPRENEURS, MakerSpace, and Funding for Innovators: which one fits your stage
Only XPRENEURS is a cohort you apply to. The other two are services you buy or bid for. Sources for the table below: the XPRENEURS accelerator page, the UnternehmerTUM MakerSpace page, and the UnternehmerTUM Prototyping Grant page.
| Offering | What it gives you | Cost | Fits which stage |
|---|---|---|---|
| XPRENEURS accelerator | 80+ hours of expert-led sessions and workshops, access to 250+ VCs including pre-seed and seed investors and angels | Equity-free, services free of charge | Pre-seed and seed deep-tech B2B moving from MVP toward market entry |
| MakerSpace | Openly accessible high-tech workshop with locations in Garching and Munich | From 49 euros per month, memberships from one day to one year | Hardware teams that need machines this month, batch or no batch |
| Prototyping Grant (Funding for Innovators) | Up to 5,000 euros, equity-free, not repayable | No equity, no repayment | Very early B2B deep-tech teams connected to TUM, TUM Venture Labs, MakerSpace, or UnternehmerTUM |
MakerSpace is not a free accelerator perk. It is a public workshop with its own price, from 49 euros per month (UnternehmerTUM MakerSpace). If machine access is your bottleneck, buy a membership now and apply to the accelerator in December.
UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS equity terms: free, equity-free, and not a cheque
XPRENEURS takes no shares and charges no fee. Its page describes participation as equity-free with founders retaining ownership and control, and the participation agreement states that accelerator services are free of charge (XPRENEURS program page).
The funding line is where founders misread the program. XPRENEURS does not directly provide grants or invest. Its page says top teams may have an opportunity to receive up to 250,000 euros through UnternehmerTUM Funding for Innovators, framed as an opportunity, not guaranteed program funding (XPRENEURS program page).
Read the funding line twice: XPRENEURS is not the payer, it is the door.
Do not model runway on the 250,000 euro figure. The one amount published as a defined instrument is the separate Prototyping Grant of up to 5,000 euros, equity-free and not repayable, aimed primarily at early-stage B2B deep-tech startups connected to the TUM, TUM Venture Labs, MakerSpace, or UnternehmerTUM ecosystem (UnternehmerTUM Prototyping Grant).
UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS deadline 2026: Batch #20 is closed
As of late August 2026 there is no open application. Batch #20 ran June 4 to July 7, 2026, and the next published application phase is December 2026 to January 2027 for Batch #21, with no exact date shown (XPRENEURS program page).
Treat December to January as a range, not a date. The program publishes the window without an exact deadline, so set a reminder for the first week of December and confirm on the program page rather than trusting an aggregator. We track dated windows across this program family in our deadline calendar.
Use the closed window. Pitch invitations land two to three weeks before the batch starts and decisions follow about one week after pitch week (application form), so a December application is a spring commitment. Spend the autumn moving your technology-readiness level, not your deck.
UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS acceptance rate: 12% in Batch #19
The program publishes its own admissions numbers, which most accelerators do not.
| Published metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Batch #19 acceptance rate | 12% |
| Startups in Batch #19 | 18 |
| Startups invited to pitch | best 40 to 45 |
| Startups selected after pitching | 20 to 30 |
| Portfolio startups that secured funding | more than 60% |
| Capital raised by portfolio | more than 3.3 billion euros |

Work the funnel backwards. With 40 to 45 teams invited to pitch and 20 to 30 selected, the pitch round converts at a high rate: getting into the room is the hard part, and the room is a live pitch in Munich. If your strongest asset is a written narrative rather than a demo, this is the wrong program for your autumn.
When this matters for your raise
An equity-free batch with access to 250+ VCs pays off only if you arrive ready to use it (XPRENEURS accelerator page). Deep-tech investors read TUM lineage and a Demo Day slot as a credibility marker, and those introductions expire with the batch.
Build the target list before the December window, not after Demo Day. Causo maps which funds are actively deploying in your sector and drafts the outreach, so the introductions land on a pipeline that already exists.
FAQ
How hard is it to get into UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS? The accelerator publishes a Batch #19 snapshot showing a 12% acceptance rate with 18 startups admitted (UnternehmerTUM Accelerator). The published selection process invites the best 40 to 45 startups to pitch, then selects 20 to 30 of them (XPRENEURS program page). The written form gets you to the pitch; the live pitch is the actual filter.
Does UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS take equity? No. XPRENEURS describes participation as equity-free, so founders keep ownership and control, and its participation agreement states that accelerator services are free of charge (XPRENEURS program page). There is no published fee and no published equity stake. A third-party page quoting a percentage is not quoting the program.
How much funding does UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS provide? XPRENEURS does not give grants or invest directly. Its page says top teams may have an opportunity to receive up to 250,000 euros through UnternehmerTUM Funding for Innovators, framed as an opportunity rather than guaranteed program funding (XPRENEURS program page). Separately, the UnternehmerTUM Prototyping Grant offers up to 5,000 euros, equity-free and not repayable (Prototyping Grant).
When is the UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS application deadline? Applications for Batch #20 ran June 4 to July 7, 2026 and are closed. The next published application phase is December 2026 to January 2027 for Batch #21, with no exact deadline shown yet (XPRENEURS program page). Check the program page in early December instead of assuming a specific day.
Is UnternehmerTUM / XPRENEURS worth it for founders? For a deep-tech B2B team that can attend the mandatory Munich events, the trade is strong: no equity, no fee, 80+ hours of expert-led sessions, and access to 250+ VCs (XPRENEURS accelerator page). More than 60% of its startups have secured funding and the portfolio has raised more than 3.3 billion euros in venture capital (XPRENEURS accelerator page). If you are a solo founder, consumer-only, or cannot travel to Munich, the fit is wrong.
