How to Apply to Seedstars in 2026: Programs and Open Calls

Seedstars is not one accelerator with one cheque. Here is which open calls are live, which programs publish no terms, and which door actually leads to money.

See every accelerator deadline we can verify — sourced, dated, and filterable by vertical and region.

How to Apply to Seedstars in 2026: Programs and Open Calls

How to apply to Seedstars in 2026: pick the vehicle, not the brand. The central Seedstars Programs directory marks its listed calls closed, SEED Inclusivity Cohort 3 takes Asia-Pacific applications until August 28, 2026, and Seedstars Africa Ventures accepts direct funding applications with no accelerator required.

Seedstars is two businesses wearing one logo, and the form you want depends on which one you are talking to. Its own homepage separates entrepreneurship capacity building from impact investment before routing entrepreneurs to the Programs page through an APPLY NOW link (Seedstars). The company describes itself as an international investment and education company headquartered in Geneva, with activity across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Central and South Asia (Seedstars).

The founder mistake is applying to "Seedstars" and expecting a cheque. Programs and funds are separate doors with separate forms, and only one kind of door wires money.

How to apply to Seedstars in 2026: the seven steps

  1. Decide whether you want capital or curriculum. These are different applications at Seedstars, split at the top of its own homepage between capacity building and investment (Seedstars).
  2. Open the Programs directory at seedstars.com/community/entrepreneurs/programs, which lists LIF CAF Rural Tech, SHIFT, SEED Inclusivity, and EBRD, and displays those entries as applications closed (Seedstars Programs).
  3. Verify every status on the dedicated program page before you believe it. The directory shows SEED Inclusivity as closed while the program's own apply page says Cohort 3 is open until August 28, 2026 (SEED Inclusivity).
  4. File the SEED Inclusivity form if you are in Asia-Pacific. Cohort 3 is open across the region until August 28, 2026, Viet Nam-based founders are strongly encouraged to apply, and the form takes about 15 to 20 minutes (SEED Inclusivity).
  5. Skip acceleration entirely if you are in Sub-Saharan Africa and want money. Seedstars Africa Ventures states that applicants do not need to have completed a Seedstars acceleration program (Seedstars Africa Ventures).
  6. Pitch Seedstars International Ventures directly if you are pre-seed or seed elsewhere in emerging markets. SIV invites founders to submit a pitch and says it has invested in more than 100 companies across 40 countries (Seedstars International Ventures).
  7. Confirm the ticket on that vehicle's own page before you model anything. The two funds publish different ranges, and the acceleration programs publish none at all.

Which Seedstars open calls are live right now

The central directory and the individual program pages disagree, and the program pages win.

Call Status on the central directory Status on its own page
SEED Inclusivity (Cohort 3) Applications closed Open across Asia-Pacific until August 28, 2026
LIF CAF Rural Tech Applications closed Not published in the research behind this guide
SHIFT Applications closed Not published in the research behind this guide
EBRD Applications closed Not published in the research behind this guide

Directory statuses and the four listed names come from Seedstars Programs; the live Cohort 3 window comes from SEED Inclusivity.

Do not treat a closed label on the directory as a decision. One of the four entries is demonstrably open on its own page, which tells you the central listing lags. Open the dedicated site for each of the other three before you write the program off.

The one Seedstars page that is out of date is the one every founder starts on.

If a Seedstars program you half-remember is not in that list of four, it is not in that list. Do not plan a raise around a cohort that nobody has published.

Seedstars investment: the two funds and their real tickets

There is no universal Seedstars cheque or equity term, so any number you have seen attached to the brand belongs to one specific vehicle.

Seedstars Africa Ventures Seedstars International Ventures
Geography Sub-Saharan Africa Emerging markets
Stage Seed and Series A Pre-seed and seed
Initial cheque $250,000 to $2 million $150,000 to $350,000 depending on stage
Follow-on Up to $5 million Up to $500,000
Leads rounds? Willing to lead or participate Will not lead a Series A
Accelerator required first? No Not published

Africa fund figures and terms come from Seedstars Africa Ventures and its first-close announcement; the SIV ticket sizes and the Series A rule come from the Seedstars FAQ and the SIV fund page.

The Africa fund is the newer and better-capitalised door. Seedstars Africa Ventures I reached a $42 million first close in December 2024, with a further $50 million in commitments toward an $80 million target (Seedstars). It describes its terms as flexible and says it will lead or participate where it can add value (Seedstars Africa Ventures).

SIV is a first-cheque fund, not a lead for your next round. It says its sweet spot is pre-seed and seed, that it can be a first investor of record, and that it will not lead a Series A, requiring another VC to lead before it considers a Series A follow-on (Seedstars FAQ).

The emerging markets accelerator trap: capacity building is not capital

No Seedstars acceleration program in the current directory publishes a per-company investment amount or an equity stake. That is not an oversight you should read past. If a program does not print a number, treat the number as zero until the program tells you otherwise in writing.

The directory entries carry institutional partner names: LIF CAF Rural Tech, SHIFT, SEED Inclusivity, and EBRD (Seedstars Programs). Programs named after an institution are usually built to deliver that institution's mandate, not to buy equity in you. They can be worth a month of your time for the market access. They are not a substitute for a round.

  • Ask for the term sheet before the bootcamp: if the program invests, there is a document. If nobody can send you one, it is a curriculum.
  • Ask what the cohort costs you: unpaid weeks in a program are the real price when no cheque is attached.
  • Ask whether the fund and the program talk: Seedstars Africa Ventures says the accelerator is not a prerequisite for its capital (Seedstars Africa Ventures), so completing a program buys you no formal claim on it.

Seedstars application answers that fit the fund

Write the ask line for the specific vehicle, because Seedstars has already published what it will and will not do.

✅ Good: "Raising a $1.5M pre-seed, $500K soft-circled, looking for a first institutional cheque." It lands inside the stage SIV names as its sweet spot and matches its stated willingness to be first investor of record (Seedstars FAQ).

❌ Bad: "Raising a $6M Series A and looking for a lead investor." SIV says outright that it will not lead a Series A and needs another VC to lead first (Seedstars FAQ), so this ask is declined before anyone reads your traction.

The same discipline applies to geography. Name the country, not the continent. Seedstars Africa Ventures is a Sub-Saharan Africa mandate (Seedstars Africa Ventures) and SEED Inclusivity Cohort 3 is an Asia-Pacific call with a Viet Nam emphasis (SEED Inclusivity). A vague "we operate in emerging markets" answer forces a reviewer to work out your eligibility, and reviewers do not do that work for you.

When this matters for your raise

A Seedstars cheque is a slice of a round, not the round. SIV's first ticket of $150,000 to $350,000 (Seedstars FAQ) sits against a $16 million median pre-money seed valuation on Carta in Q4 2024 (Carta), so you are assembling the rest of the round in parallel either way, and SIV's refusal to lead a Series A means your next lead search starts now rather than after the cheque clears. Compare the process against how to apply to Antler and how to apply to 500 Global, and read accelerator acceptance rates before you spend a month on any single form. If the parallel investor list is what is eating your week, tools like Causo keep the outreach running while application decisions sit.

FAQ

Is Seedstars an accelerator or a venture capital fund? Both, and they are separate doors. Seedstars describes itself as an international investment and education company headquartered in Geneva, with activity across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Central and South Asia (Seedstars), and its homepage splits entrepreneurship capacity building from impact investment (Seedstars). Its two named funds take pitches independently: Seedstars Africa Ventures says no accelerator is required (Seedstars Africa Ventures) and Seedstars International Ventures invites founders to submit a pitch directly (Seedstars International Ventures).

How much money does Seedstars invest in startups? There is no single Seedstars number, because each vehicle publishes its own. Seedstars Africa Ventures says initial investments run from $250,000 to $2 million (Seedstars Africa Ventures), and its first-close announcement describes investments of up to $2 million in seed and Series A rounds with follow-on capacity of up to $5 million (Seedstars). Seedstars International Ventures publishes a separate first ticket of $150,000 to $350,000 depending on stage, with follow-on up to $500,000 (Seedstars FAQ). The acceleration programs publish no per-company amount.

Do I need to go through a Seedstars accelerator to get funding? No, at least not for the Africa fund. Seedstars Africa Ventures invests in high-growth companies across Sub-Saharan Africa and states explicitly that applicants do not need to have completed a Seedstars acceleration program (Seedstars Africa Ventures). Seedstars International Ventures separately invites founders to submit a pitch at pre-seed and seed across emerging markets (Seedstars International Ventures). If capital is what you want, apply to the fund directly.

Which countries does Seedstars operate in? Seedstars says its work spans more than 90 countries and includes 15 offices around the globe (Seedstars), with activity across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Central and South Asia (Seedstars). Individual vehicles are far narrower than that footprint. SEED Inclusivity Cohort 3 is an Asia-Pacific call (SEED Inclusivity) and Seedstars Africa Ventures covers Sub-Saharan Africa (Seedstars Africa Ventures).

Are Seedstars applications currently open? Partly, and the central directory is not a reliable guide to it. The Seedstars Programs directory lists LIF CAF Rural Tech, SHIFT, SEED Inclusivity, and EBRD, and displays all of them as applications closed (Seedstars Programs). The SEED Inclusivity application page contradicts that and says Cohort 3 is open across Asia-Pacific until August 28, 2026 (SEED Inclusivity). Check the dedicated program page before you accept a closed status from the directory.
