How to Apply to MedTech Innovator in 2026

MedTech Innovator is a competition, not a cash-for-equity accelerator. Roughly 1,800 companies applied for 2026 and 65 made the Index. Here is the published funnel.

How to Apply to MedTech Innovator in 2026

To apply to MedTech Innovator, submit the online application, pitch if you are invited, then compete for prize money through a June to November virtual accelerator and audience-voted showcase finals (MedTech Innovator). The 2026 cycle closed in December 2025, and the site now points founders to a 2027 waitlist (MedTech Innovator).

How to apply to MedTech Innovator is a different question from how to apply to a seed accelerator, because MedTech Innovator is built as a competition. Early-stage companies are published as eligible to compete for up to $500,000 in funding (MedTech Innovator), and that money moves through a showcase pipeline rather than landing as a cohort check on day one.

The application is the filter, not the accelerator. The 65 companies in the 2026 MTI Index represent the top 3.6% of more than 1,800 global applicants (MedTech Innovator).

How to apply to MedTech Innovator in 2026: the eight published steps

  1. Check the category and stage gate before you write anything. The target profile is an early- to mid-stage medical device, diagnostic or digital health company, and the Apply page states that companies that have raised up to Series C may apply (MedTech Innovator).
  2. Join the notification waitlist while the form is shut. As of August 2026 the 2026 applications are closed, and the Apply page directs founders to a 2027 notification waitlist (MedTech Innovator).
  3. Submit the online application inside the published window. The 2026 cycle opened October 6, 2025 with a base deadline of December 1, 2025, and the Apply page also displayed an extended deadline of December 16, 2025 (MedTech Innovator).
  4. Expect a pitch invitation, online or in person. Application review leads to online or in-person pitch invitations for a subset of applicants.
  5. Record a one-minute video before you need it. Companies advancing after the pitch are asked for additional information, including a one-minute video.
  6. Clear June to mid-November on a senior leader's calendar. At least 50 companies were scheduled to join the 2026 Accelerator, beginning June 1, 2026 and ending in mid-November 2026.
  7. Book the two in-person dates. An accepted company must send a co-founder, CEO or senior leader to the in-person Innovator Summit in California and the October MedTech Conference showcase in Boston (MedTech Innovator).
  8. Compete in the showcase finals. The final awards are decided by audience voting.

Steps 4, 5, 6 and 8 come from MedTech Innovator's 2026 program terms.

MedTech Innovator deadline 2026: what is published and what is not

The 2026 window is closed, and no 2027 date exists to plan against.

Milestone Published date
2026 cycle opened October 6, 2025
Base deadline December 1, 2025
Extended deadline shown on the Apply page December 16, 2025
2027 application deadline Not published

Dates from MedTech Innovator's program terms; the 2027 status from the Apply page, which offers a notification waitlist instead.

Do not copy a 2027 deadline off a third-party accelerator directory. The program has not announced one. Put a waitlist signup in your calendar for the autumn, and track the confirmed window in our deadline calendar.

MedTech Innovator equity terms: the no-equity line is dated 2024

The most repeated fact about this program is sourced to a terms page two cycles old. The 2024 published terms explicitly stated that there were no application fees and that companies did not give equity to MedTech Innovator or its partners (MedTech Innovator).

The current portal terms read differently. Last updated October 18, 2025, they describe the 2026 rules but carry legacy 2025 wording stating that awards may be gifts, equity, SAFEs, convertible notes or similar instruments, and that application fees may exist (MedTech Innovator).

Treat no-equity as a claim to verify, not a guarantee to build a cap table around. Ask for the award agreement in writing before you tell your board the prize money is non-dilutive.

How much funding MedTech Innovator provides: three numbers, three scopes

The program publishes three funding figures, and they are not the same pot.

Published figure What it applies to Source
Up to $500,000 What early-stage companies are published as eligible to compete for Apply page
Up to $350,000 The MTI Finals competition the US program culminates in Program page
More than $1 million Cash prizes across the US, APAC and BioTools programs combined About page

The seven-figure headline is not the US pot. It spans the US, APAC and BioTools programs together (MedTech Innovator), so a life-science tools company should read the separate BioTools Innovator track and an Asia-Pacific company the APAC program. Every figure on that table is competed for, not a check attached to acceptance.

MedTech Innovator acceptance rate: the 2026 funnel, stage by stage

MedTech Innovator publishes a 2026 funnel, not a durable acceptance rate.

2026 stage Companies
Applied More than 1,800
Invited to pitch 200
Selected for the 2026 MTI Index 65, the top 3.6%
2026 Accelerator cohort At least 50 scheduled

The first three rows come from MedTech Innovator's 2026 MTI Index. The cohort size comes from the program terms.

Getting invited to pitch is the hard part. Once you pitch, one in three gets through. MedTech Innovator describes the 2026 result as roughly one in three pitching companies and one in 28 applicants overall (MedTech Innovator). Quote those with the year attached: the program publishes no acceptance rate that holds across cycles.

What the MedTech Innovator application is graded on

The published criteria are evidence-weighted, and market size is not among them. Applications are evaluated across value, execution and momentum, including product and customer validation, healthcare economics, competition, IP, team strength, development plan, regulatory and clinical burden, evidence, traction, partnerships and upcoming funding (MedTech Innovator).

For the deck, MedTech Innovator recommends covering the unmet need, market and standard of care, solution, differentiation, validation, regulatory path, healthcare economics, business model and reimbursement, IP, team, advisors or partners, milestones, funding needs, and a concise value proposition (MedTech Innovator).

Write the unmet need against the standard of care, not against a market chart.

✅ Good: "Standard of care for [INDICATION] is [PROCEDURE], billed under [CODE], and [COMPLICATION] occurs in [N]% of cases at [SITE]. Our device removes that step." It names the clinical gap, the reimbursement path and the evidence in one line.

❌ Bad: "The [SEGMENT] market is growing fast and there is a large unmet need for better solutions." It describes a market rather than a clinical gap, and leaves a reviewer nothing to score on validation or healthcare economics.

Build to the published criteria, not to a rumoured field list. MedTech Innovator prints the criteria without publishing every online-form field, so treat circulating question lists as unverified.

Is MedTech Innovator worth it for founders in 2026?

The program is remote-friendly, and two in-person appearances are still compulsory. Nobody relocates, but an accepted company must send a co-founder, CEO or senior leader to the Innovator Summit in California and the October MedTech Conference showcase in Boston (MedTech Innovator).

Price the commitment as roughly five and a half months of senior time. The 2026 Accelerator began June 1, 2026 and ended in mid-November 2026 (MedTech Innovator), closing at a conference showcase in front of strategics and buyers rather than a demo day for investors alone.

The alumni record is the strongest argument for saying yes. MedTech Innovator reports 717 alumni companies, $10.3 billion in follow-on equity funding, and more than 93% still in business or successfully acquired (MedTech Innovator). Apply if you want buyer exposure inside a regulated sales cycle. Skip it if no senior leader can give up two travel weeks.

When this matters for your raise

Prize money is a milestone, not a round. Alumni have taken $10.3 billion in follow-on equity funding (MedTech Innovator), which makes this a signal-generating step into a raise rather than a replacement for one. Run a parallel investor process across the June to November window, because a November showcase result only converts if partners are already tracking you. If keeping that list warm while the program eats your calendar is the constraint, tools like Causo run the outreach in the background.

FAQ

How hard is it to get into MedTech Innovator? Hard, on the 2026 numbers. The 65 companies in the 2026 MTI Index were the top 3.6% of more than 1,800 global applicants, and of the 200 invited to pitch, roughly one in three made the Index (MedTech Innovator). The application screen is the steeper of the two gates.

Does MedTech Innovator take equity? The 2024 published terms said companies did not give equity to MedTech Innovator or its partners, and that there were no application fees (MedTech Innovator). The current portal terms, last updated October 18, 2025, carry legacy wording that awards may be gifts, equity, SAFEs, convertible notes or similar instruments, and that application fees may exist (MedTech Innovator). Get the award agreement in writing rather than trusting the older blanket statement.

How much funding does MedTech Innovator provide? Three figures cover three scopes. Early-stage companies are published as eligible to compete for up to $500,000 (MedTech Innovator), the US program culminates in MTI Finals for up to $350,000 (MedTech Innovator), and more than $1 million in cash prizes spans the US, APAC and BioTools programs (MedTech Innovator). All of it is competed for, not granted on acceptance.

When is the MedTech Innovator application deadline? There is no published 2027 deadline. The 2026 cycle opened October 6, 2025 with a base deadline of December 1, 2025 and an extended deadline of December 16, 2025 (MedTech Innovator). Applications are now closed, and the Apply page offers a 2027 notification waitlist in place of a date (MedTech Innovator).

Is MedTech Innovator worth it for founders? Worth it if you are an early- to mid-stage device, diagnostic or digital health company that wants buyer and strategic exposure. MedTech Innovator reports 717 alumni companies, $10.3 billion in follow-on equity funding, and more than 93% still in business or successfully acquired (MedTech Innovator). The cost is roughly five and a half months plus compulsory in-person attendance in California and Boston by a co-founder, CEO or senior leader (MedTech Innovator).
