How founders get in

For IVS2026, the organizer described the open-area event as a catalyst for new challenges, bringing founders and investors together through sessions, the Startup Market, networking, and 4S pre-matching. Its stated ambition was to make IVS not merely a place to listen, but a place to think, speak, and make decisions. IVS CORE was a separate, invitation-only decision-maker area.

  1. Edition scope: IVS2026 was held in Kyoto from 2026-07-01 to 2026-07-03. As of 2026-10-07, the official pages reviewed still describe IVS2026 and do not announce a later edition; therefore, the steps and prices below describe the completed 2026 edition, not a future one. The official and co-organizer reports say IVS2026 took place in Kyoto; no cancellation, postponement, or city move is reported.
  2. For the open IVS area (2026), register on 4S and purchase an IVS PASS. The organizer said anyone involved with startups could participate; ordinary attendance was by pass purchase, not a separate general-attendance application.
  3. Optional: apply to exhibit in the IVS Startup Market through an organizer or VC/entrepreneur recommendation, or by self-nomination. The selection committee reviews applications; the 2026 application deadline was 2026-05-31, and the organizer said exhibiting was free.
  4. Optional: apply to IVS LAUNCHPAD. The 2026 competition page required a product that could be demonstrated and stated no restrictions on industry, business model, nationality, or location. Its schedule listed 2026-05-07 as the application deadline; an earlier organizer announcement printed 2026-04-21, and the organizer pages do not explain the discrepancy.
  5. After registering, use 4S to search for participants, request meetings, and confirm a time and place after requests are accepted. The 2026 guide also described reservable 20-minute meeting-room slots.
Startup programmeThe main IVS area did not list a separate general startup pass: founders could purchase IVS PASS. The founder-specific CORE PASS Startup was an invitation- and screening-based pass for IVS CORE. source

IncludesAccess to IVS CORE and the main IVS area; CORE access was for 2026-07-01 and 2026-07-02. CORE included invitation-only networking.
EligibilityPublished CORE PASS Startup criteria (2026): founders of companies founded within the last 7 years that had raised or planned to raise equity funding, or founders in deep tech (no founding-age limit stated for the latter). Both CORE pass types were screened and invitation-based.
Scholarships / free passesNo scholarship programme was examined. The organizer did publish a 2026 referral-ticket campaign: free IVS PASS tickets for the first 6,000 eligible recipients and free student passes for the first 1,000 eligible recipients. The free referral allocation was later reported distributed.
StudentsIVS PASS Student cost ¥4,980 (tax included) (2026). It included the standard IVS PASS benefits and access to the student-focused SPIKES area. The organizer also offered a limited free-referral allocation for student passes (2026).
Investor passIVS2026 did not list a separate public investor pass for the open area. CORE access was invitation-only and screening-based; prospective guests could register for its waiting list, but registration did not guarantee a pass. source
Investor eligibilityCORE PASS (2026) was for screened decision-makers, including operating-company executives, VC/CVC fund partners, financial institutions, institutional investors, asset owners, and policymakers.

FormatIVS LAUNCHPAD (2026) selected 15 finalists from more than 500 applications.
